The Scientific garage door opener in the 1970s was fairly popular. It was my favorite opener. The things was built like a Russian tank. Indestructable in the extreme. Just make sure it was mounted securely because it would squash any vehicle underneath it. This was when steel was cheap, longevity mattered, and quality was directly proportional to weight.
