The 82LM wall switch that comes with it
The wall switch, referred to in the documentation as "wall-mounted garage door control" or "Smart Control Panel", is interesting.
For example today, 2024-07-23 (Tue), a customer’s wall switch was blinking and not opening or closing the door.
Both doors had the model 8355 and both wall switches were blinking indicating a problem.
The handheld remotes worked fine.
I only found one answer after Googling for a long time.
A person was able to fix the problem by repeatedly tapping the switch quickly.
I’ve seen some strange easter eggs but why this?
It seems pointless.
After this I called Liftmaster and they had me tap the switch repeatedly.
Tap up to six times they said.
(Notice their owner’s manual says nothing about this.)
This did not work at which point they said the switch was defective.
Since parts are only warrantied for one year the customer must buy a new one.
Since the customer was a senior citizen living poorly off social security I charged her nothing and told her to use her remote controls as wall switches.
Liftmaster’s slogan is "The Most Advanced Openers Available".
They concentrate on delivering advanced "benefits" at good prices.
Some of their openers have lasers, motion sensing, WiFi, cameras, and fancy switches that are programmable.
All these features if they fail, and they do seem to fail frequently, end up costing lots of money.
So much money that it is almost always better to buy a whole new opener.
Still, despite that being case, many customers love being able to verify their door is closed while on vacation somewhere far away.
It’s the garage door industry equivalent to Apple and Tesla.
Model 98022. (Wall Mounted.)
This is the only wall mounted residential Liftmaster sold in 2025 by Liftmaster meant for doors less than 400 lbs.
Model 98032. (Wall Mounted.)
Their website says this opener is for doors weighing 400 to 1100 lbs. Out of the tens of thousands of doors I’ve seen in the Southern California area only one 16x7 door has ever weighed more than 400 lbs. The vast majority of doors weigh less than 200 lbs with a few 16x7 metal backed insulated doors weighing as much as 260 lbs. Once every year or two I’ll see an oddball door weighing 300 or 340 lbs. However, if you have an overly large thick wooden door, probably costing over $10k, it might weigh 400+ lbs. Putting this opener on a door weighing substantially less than it is designed to handle may not be the right thing to do.
