Genie’s Website

Genie has more opener models than there are grains of sand on all the beaches in the world. Nobody including Genie has a complete list of their openers. I have no idea why they do this. I’m sure they don’t either. Here’s their current crop: Genie

This is the best Genie has to sell. It is the Goldilocks garage door opener. Everything else is either too little or too much. Too little meaning it breaks to easily because it is made poorly or too much meaning the complexity causes it to break too often.

Model CM8600

This was the culmination of Genie’s flagship models for many decades. It went from being an opener that lasted decades in the 60s to being something in 2013 or so that would fail immediately. I used to carry three of these with me on an install because quite literally the first two might fail. At that point in time I was a Genie service rep and used what was supposed to be their best. When the wharehouse in San Diego started refusing the returns I started telling customers wanting a new opener to buy Chamberlain. Very quickly I got a call from the VP of marketing telling me I had to stop my evil ways. He seemed to think it was my responsibility to take repeated losses. So I gladly left Genie. Soon after that Genie discontinued these CM8600s. A decade later Genie is once again making a reliable opener, perhaps the best in the market, the model 7055.
